Death: Jul. 25, 1897 Baltimore Baltimore City Maryland, USA
"OBITUARY HENRY VAN DYKE JOHNS Mr. Henry Van Dyke Johns, of the law firm of Johns and Porter, died yesterday of Bright's disease at his residence, 106 East Franklin street. Mr. Johns had been ill for some time. He leaves one child, Mrs. Edith Tyson, wife of Mr. Jesse Tyson, who is now traveling in Europe. Mr. Johns was a son of the late Rev. Dr. Henry Johns, rector of Emmanuel Protestant Episcopal Church of Baltimore, and in memory of whom Memorial Protestant Episcopal Church was built. Bishop John Johns, of Virginia, was his uncle. He was formerly active in politics and was connected with the "potato bug" movement in 1873. When Mr. J. Morrison Harris was a candidate for Governor Mr. Johns was active in the movement, and when Mr. Harris was declared defeated he advised a contest and acted as counsel for the contestants. Mr. Johns married Miss Annie Davis, daughter of the late George Davis, of Delaware. She died several years ago. Two brothers, Mr. James Johns and Dr. John Johns, survive him. The late Dr. Montgomery Johns, formerly a professor at the Maryland Agricultural College, was another brother." The Baltimore Sun. 26 July 1897
