George Drummond Hendricks was born 3 Oct 1805 in Eaton, Preble County, Ohio to David English and Rosannah (Stack house) Hendricks. His siblings were: Elizabeth, Julia, Rachel, Hiram, David, William, James, Jane, Cynthia and Nancy. On 19 Sept 1838, he married Elmira M. Harbaugh and they had ten children: Florence, Zachary, Harriet, Mary, George, William, Bruce, Charles, Albert and Grace all born in Eaton. On 18 Oct 1848, George from the Whig party, was elected to the Legislature serviing Perry, Fairfield and Hacking. After the children were born they moved to Iowa in 1880, where George worked as a surveyor and bought and sold land but they returned to Ohio in 1885, due to his wife's health. Elmira died in 1888. At age 93, George made visits to relatives in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. He died 25 May 1900 at his home in Eaton. Hendricks Rich as Preble county is in its productions, it has been equally rich in its production of useful, strong men, among who we mention Col. George D. Hendricks, whose death we are pained to announce, occurred in his home in Eaton, last Thursday morning at 5 o'clock, after an extended illness. He was aged 95 years, 7 mnonths and 21 days. The subject of this sketch was born on the site of Camden, in a part now known as North Liberty street, October 3, 1805. He had varied experiences; was a soldier under Gen. Sam Houston and Col. Sidney Johnson in the war between Texas and Mexico, and then returned and settled in Eaton, where he became a most useful citizen; served in the Legislature, was county Auditor, county Sheriff, postmaster and devoted many years to school teaching. He was the first white male child born in Preble county. His father, David E. Hendricks, opened the first public inn at Eaton about 1806.
