      Medina County Gazette-May 18, 1893:Ellen Woodbury, whose death was noted in the Gazette last week, was born on a farm on the banks of Penobsoot River, Maine near Prospect, October 8, 1817. When but two years of age she moved with her parents to Charlestown, near Boston. After remaining there during the summer the family moved to Lynn, remaining there for two years. A sad calamity befell the family at that time, the husband and father, who followed the sea's, being lost with his ship and all aboard. The afflicted family then took up their abode in Boston. When but six years of age Mrs. Hendrickson, went to Philadelphia by sea and continued to live with an older sister for three years, then removed with her to Pittsburgh. Three or four years later they moved to Cincinnati, and continued to live with her sister went about 18 years of age, she returned to Philadelphia and join the family of her brother, John B. Woodbury, who placed her in Mount Joy seminary, where she studied and taught in at 24 years graduated with high honors. Her home was then made with her sister Elizabeth, and Hagerstown Maryland, and here she was married to J. W. Hendrickson went 26 years of age. They took up their residence at Mount Joy Pennsylvania, and hear their oldest son, Woodbury, was born. Later they moved to Kelly's corner where their daughter May was born. In 1851, the move to Ohio in company with the family of John T. McDowell, settling first in Seville and from there after a year stay to Medina, where their daughter Lillie and son Blake were born. Mr. Hendrickson at once found employment with the firm of Blake, Booth& Tyler, and in 1864 on account of his excellent business qualifications was appointed postmaster of this village. Two years later death cut short his life and the widow was appointed to succeed him. She held this responsible position on so 1879, when she tendered her resignation. Heard ministration of the office was one marked with ability and courteous efficiency, earning a commendation and goodwill of those in authority, also of the many patrons and people of Medina. Her children were of useful assistance in the discharge of the office. The deceased early in life joined the Congregational church and up to the time of her death, was an earnest and consistent number, a kindhearted Christian, noted for her many womanly virtues. Her four children who survived her death and who were all present at her funeral are, Woodbury W., a chief in the navigation Bureau and the Navy Department at Washington DC; Blake, cashier Of Old Phoenix National Bank, Mrs. Thomas Britnall of Medina and Mrs. Ben Boult of Westfield New York.
