Marie McConnell "Hendricksons of New York" wrote.."Daniel and his father are reported to have been the first settlers in what is now Union Township, Lawrence County. He built his cabin on the west bank of the Shenango River on his father's property, and managed the ferry which he and his father are said to have owned jointly. Much of the riverfront part of this property was washed away in the big flood of 1835, including the site where Daniel's cabin had stood...The last bear to venture into what now comprises the city of New Castle(Lawrence county, PA) was killed by Daniel, together with Joseph Townsend and Jesse DuShane in 1804, and said to have weighed 400 pounds. Jesse DuShane hung its head in his wagon shop to scare the boys away from his tools....There are other reports of the Hendricksons being unusually large men..." - [S38] Hendricks, Andrew A.
