Hyrum (also spelled Hiram) was a carpenter by trade. He married Rebecca when
she was 16. He was called on a mission to the east, but did not return so
Rebecca eventually divorced him. Hyrum and Rebecca were sealed, but we have
found no record of a cancellation of sealing. Rebecca was sealed to Samuel
Roskelley by President Brigham Young in his office. Lula R. Mortensen went to
the Genelogical Society to check on this. They went with her to the Presiding
Bishop's office and to the temple to check. They could not find a
cancellation, but she was told, "You can be very sure that Brigham Young would
not seal Rebecca to Samuel unless there had been a cancellation of the previous
      sealing."
