Obituary--Death of Mrs. Sarah A. W. HallTo the Editor of the Patriot,Sarah A. (Wicoff) Hall was born in Monmouth, New Jersey, January 5, 1796, and with her parents, came to Warren County, Ohio in the year 1808. She was the oldest of a family of eight children, and survived them all except her youngest sister, Mary Harper, a resident of Illinois. She was married to Thomas Hall September 5th, 1811, and began housekeeping on the farm (near King's Mills) where she died. The issues of this marriage were thirteen children, of which Peter W. and Thomas R. S. and Ann Mulford, Catherine Dill, Sarah S. Armstrong, Ellen Babbitt, Gertrude Lytle, Emeline Boyer and Elmira B. Miller survive their mother. Mrs. Hall was the grandmother of seventy-two grandchildren, one hundred and fifty-eight great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren. There were present at her funeral the representatives of five generations. This venerable old lady was left a widow in June, 18163, but continued to keep house for her son, Peter, until the 9th, when she departed this life, aged 95 years, 2 months and 1 day. She united with the Fellowship Christian church some fifty-five years ago under the labor of Elder Richard Simonton, and continued to grow in favor with God and man until death called her home. Three weeks preceding the day before her departure, she attended communion services at Fellowship, and was a great inspiration to the meeting. Her faith in the Christian religion was fixed and in it she found her solace in old age. When she became indisposed, five days before her death, the children desired to call a physician, but she said "No, I am worn out, and when one is worn out in one life they ought to go where they can begin life anew. I can do no more here, and I want to go where I can renew my youth and begin a better life." And thus she fell asleep, to awake in the likeness of Christ's resurrection. In her death the county has lost, perhaps, its oldest citizen, the community an honored neighbor, the church a faithful citizen, the community an honored neighbor, the church a faithful communicant and the family a tender, lovable and affectionate mother; a mother that the little grandchildren almost worshiped. The funeral took place from her late residence, conducted by Rev. W. H. Orr, who preached upon "The Immortality of Society." His thoughts were fraught with comfort and hope. Mother Hall's remains were laid beside those of her husband in the Fellowship Cemetery. - [S1] Stryker-Rodda Kenn, Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey, Records of the Dutch Cong. of Freehold and Middletown, p. 71., 974.9 B2g.
