Notes - Johannes (John) Hendricks 1991: 3 1963: 3
In 1939 Katherine Frost (West) Cowherd, a 2nd great-grand-daughter of John and
Mary (Perkins) Hendricks wrote: "John Hendricks was a soldier in the
Revolution. He moved to Simpson County, Kentucky in 1802 from North Carolina."
This report that he was a soldier in the Revolutionary War is undocumented.
Her note is also the only source indicating that Mary Perkins was John's second
wife. Katherine recorded this information after a talk with "Uncle Jimmin"
(James Samuel Hendricks, D020810): "Great-great grandfather, John Hendricks
came from North Carolina in 1802 to Kentucky, married a Miss Perkins, mother of
John T. Hendricks, who is half-brother to William Hendricks, Des Moines, Iowa."
A map of landholders in Rockingham County, NC shows John acquiring land in
1787, close to his father. This is verified by a deed dated 16 May 1787 from
the State of North Carolina to John Hendrickson which includes 350 acres on
Little Rock House Creek. The price was 50 shillings. John Hendrickson deeds
this same land to Francis Wright on 23 July 1805 for $412.50.
John's family appeared in the 1800 and 1810 censuses of Rockingham County,
North Carolina, and in the 1820 census of Simpson County, Kentucky.
It is unknown which of the children belong to which wife. It is known that
William belongs to wife #1 and John Thompson belongs to wife #2 (Mary Perkins).
The six older children have been assigned to the first wife and the last three
to Mary. The first wife's death would have occurred sometime between about
1788 and 1793. There is also the possibility that some of the children are
John's step-children if Mary Perkins was married previously.

!CHRISTENING: Register of Freehold; Vol. 25; p. 88; This extraction of the
Middletown Church records lists no date for Johannes' christening. However, it
appears from other entries that several children may have been christened on
the same day, but the date entered only on the first christening of the day.
If accurate, Johannes was christened 9 Sep 1753. This has been interpreted
differently by other researchers.

BAPTISMS
Catharina Daniel Hendrikzon
Sept. 9. Cathrina Couwenhove
Johannes Hindrik Hindrikson
Sara Tamzon
Lena Dirrick Vancleef
Sept. 30 Elizabeth Leeck
After studying the format of this record it is obvious that it only containes baptisms, unless otherwise noted, and that when more than one child was baptized on the same day the date of the baptisms were noted by the name of the first child listed. This inducates that Johannes was baptized on the 9 Sep 1753, not born and the Sept. 30 date often listed as his bapt. date was in fact the bapt. date of the next listed child Lena Vancleef. - [S6] Research Notes.
