      Abraham HENDRICKS (JR) 1995: 28 1991: 45 1963: 27 DW: 4721

Abraham's estate was presented for probate in Bates Co., MO on Nov 6, 1867.
As he died intestate an administrator was appointed by the court. That administrator was John S. McCraw, his nephew, which differentiates him from other Abrahams of the same place and period. His wife was listed as Nancy.
The securities for John S. McCraw's administration were Thomas Atterton and William R. Marshall. Abraham was probably buried at Crescent Hill, Bates Co., MO.

The birth order of Abraham's children is uncertain. Also unknown is which children belong to which wife. That Abraham was married previously is deducted from the ages of his second wife, Nancy, and the ages of the children insofar as they are known. The first seven children are being assigned to the first wife and the last three to the second wife, Nancy.

from the age of his second wife, Nancy, and the ages of the children insofar
as they are known. We know from Drusilla Hendricks's account that the first wife died in 1828.
We are assigning the first five children to the first wife and the rest to the second wife, Nancy with the
assumption that the first wife died while bearing Eleanor, whose birthyear is deduced as 1828 from the
1850 Taney Co., Missouri Census, which lists her age as 22. The current birth order is given based on
research conducted by Barbara L. Brown.

      SOURCES:

BIRTH YEAR & PLACE: The 1850 Taney Co., Missouri Census M432-420 Researched by Barbara L. Brown indicates Abraham is 56 years old. This would give him a birth year of 1793 or 1794. Other records show him as younger than Sarah and Charlotte, whose birthdates we know to be later than 1794. This question should be more carefully researched.

(Abraham) died some time before 6 Nov 1867, when his estate was presented for probate in Bates Co., Mo. As he died intestate, an administrator was appointed by the court. That administator was John S. McCraw, his nephew (son of his sister, Sarah and her husband, Joseph Jones McCraw) which helps establish that this Abraham is Abraham and Charlotte's son and differentiates him from the other Abrhams of the same place and period. His wife is listed as Nancy. The securities for John S. McCraw's administration were Thomas Atterton and William R. Marshall. Abraham is probably buried at Crescent Hill (Cemetery), Bates co., Mo.

The Simpson Co., Court House burned down in 1878 leaving us to guess at many of these marriages. Considering the names of Abrham's first children it is probable that his wife was a sister to Forester Hopper who married Elizabeth Hendricks, daughter of Henry Hendricks of Weakley Co., TN. Forester was the son of Darby Hopper who lived in Simpson Co., KY around 1820. The Hoppers were an early Rockingham Co., NC family who where members of the Matrimony Creek Baptist Church of Abraham and Charlotte Hendricks. If Abraham Jr's wife did die in child birth it is probable that the surviving child, Eleanor, retained her name.

If Abraham Hendricks Jr. would have married before 1819 then a record probably would have been preserved in the Warren Co., KY. Marriage Registers. But since they were probably married in 1819 the marriage was recorded in the newly formed Simpson Co., KY archives. The Simpson Co., Court House burned down in 1878 destroying almost all of the records. Elizabeth their first daughter was born in 1820 placing their marriage in 1819 or early 1820.

Many have confused this Abraham with the Abraham Hendricks who was the son of Henry Hendricks and Margaret Barnett and who resided in what is now Cass Co., MO. This Abraham, son of Henry, married Mrs. Cassa Amanda McFarlin who later married Alexander Bernard of Cass Co. after Abraham' s death in 1847. It is thought that Abraham Hendricks (the son of Abraham Hendricks and Charlotte Hinton) was previously married before marrying Nancy (surname unknown), since Elizabeth his oldest daughter was born around 1820. The 1850 Tany Co., MO. Census indicates that Nancy was born at least as early as 1807.
