Patty Neely taught elementary school in and around Franklin, Kentucky from 1897 through 1904, during which she taught many of her bothers and sisters. She also taught at Wickliff, near Paducah, in 1905. From there she went to Wyoming for two years where her brother James Gordon was homesteading. While teaching there she met Louis Hansen BRODERSON, a Danish immigrant also homesteading in Newfork, Wyoming. In 1907 she returned to teach at Liberty and Red River schools in Simpson County, and then went back to Wyoming in 1909. She returned to Simpson County Kentucky where Louis Hansen BRODERSON came in 1910 to marry her and where she raised her family of six children.
