  1. 1.  Henry HENDRICKS was born on 20 Jun 1730 in Freehold, Monmouth, New Jersey; was christened on 20 Jan 1731 in Freehold Dutch Reformed Church, Monmouth, New Jersey, USA; died in Probably North Carolina.

    Notes:

"Henry and Sarah lived at Middletown Point (north of Middletown) until 1761 or later when the sixth of the their twelve children was born. In 1761 Henry Hendrickson advertised 500 acres of land for sale "near Middletown". The later when the sixth of the their twelve children was born. In 1761 Henry Hendrickson advertised 500 acres of land for sale "near Middletown". The family does not appear in local church records after that year, so apparently they were successful in disposing of their land. Despite diligent searching, no further record has been found for Henry and Sarah until they appear in the Rockingham Co., North Carolina 1790 census with 3 males between ages 16 and 60 and four white females. Where the family was between 1761 and 1779 remains a mystery, except for clues which come from the pension application records of two of their sons, Albert and William. Both sons stated they joined the Maryland Flying Camp unit on their first enlistments in the Revolutionary War in Fredericktown, Frederick, Maryland in 1776 and 1777, and both stated they were residents of Fredericktown at the time of their enlistments.

Henry and Sarah were not found in the records of Frederick or surrounding counties. Albert does state his third and fourth enlistments (1779 and 1781) were from North Carolina, indicating the family had moved south by then. In the 1800 census of Rockingham County, Henry is listed with persons in the household consisting of 1 male and 1 female over age 45. Neither Henry nor Sarah appear as head of a household in the 1810 census, and as Henry would have been 70 and Sarah about 68, it would be reasonable to assume that both probably died between 1800 and 1810. Early in the 1800's their sons began disposing of land in North Carolina and moving west. The demise of their parents may have precipitated their willingness to move on. No disposition of land, cemetery records, or probate court records have been found for Henry. He apparently used the Hendrickson form of the name earlier in his life and dropped the "son" at some point in North Carolina. Nothing is known of the four daughters except for the christenings of the first two in Middletown. It is a good possibility they married into some of the same families their brothers married into, and that their identities were lost. Perhaps some or all of them went west with their brothers.

  1. 2.  Henry HENDRICKS Descendancy chart to this point (1.Henry1) was born in Middletown Point, Monmouth, New Jersey, USA; was christened on 3 May 1752 in Middletown Dutch Reformed Church, Monmouth, New Jersey, USA; died about 1811.

    Notes:

    Hendrick (Henry) HENDRICKS 1991 ID: 2 1963 ID: 2

The christening record for Henry lists him as "Hindrick, son of Hindrick and
Sara (Tomzon) Hindrikzon," and as witnesses his paternal grandparents, Hindrik
Hindrickzon (for whom he was named) and Aeltje Couwenhove.

Land was deeded to him in Rockingham County (approximately 2 miles from his
father's land), by the State of North Carolina. He is listed in the 1790 and
    1800 census of Rockingham Co.

An entry in the Rockingham Co. court minutes for the February 1801 term shows a
deed from Henry Hendrix to Eleven Russell, and is probably this Henry preparing
to leave for Warren County, Kentucky, where he had a land grant of 200 acres
and where he appears in the 1810 census listed on the same page as his brother
    Abraham.

No information has been established regarding any of Henry and Sally's
descendants. The 1800 census lists a Henry Hendricks with two females 16-25,
    and one female 0-9.

    Notes:

    Johannes (John) Hendricks 1991: 3 1963: 3

In 1939 Katherine Frost (West) Cowherd, a 2nd great-grand-daughter of John and
Mary (Perkins) Hendricks wrote: "John Hendricks was a soldier in the
Revolution. He moved to Simpson County, Kentucky in 1802 from North Carolina."
This report that he was a soldier in the Revolutionary War is undocumented.
Her note is also the only source indicating that Mary Perkins was John's second
wife. Katherine recorded this information after a talk with "Uncle Jimmin"
(James Samuel Hendricks, D020810): "Great-great grandfather, John Hendricks
came from North Carolina in 1802 to Kentucky, married a Miss Perkins, mother of
John T. Hendricks, who is half-brother to William Hendricks, Des Moines, Iowa."

A map of landholders in Rockingham County, NC shows John acquiring land in
1787, close to his father. This is verified by a deed dated 16 May 1787 from
the State of North Carolina to John Hendrickson which includes 350 acres on
Little Rock House Creek. The price was 50 shillings. John Hendrickson deeds
this same land to Francis Wright on 23 July 1805 for $412.50.

John's family appeared in the 1800 and 1810 censuses of Rockingham County,
North Carolina, and in the 1820 census of Simpson County, Kentucky.

It is unknown which of the children belong to which wife. It is known that
William belongs to wife #1 and John Thompson belongs to wife #2 (Mary Perkins).
The six older children have been assigned to the first wife and the last three
to Mary. The first wife's death would have occurred sometime between about
1788 and 1793. There is also the possibility that some of the children are
John's step-children if Mary Perkins was married previously.

!CHRISTENING: Register of Freehold; Vol. 25; p. 88; This extraction of the
Middletown Church records lists no date for Johannes' christening. However, it
appears from other entries that several children may have been christened on
the same day, but the date entered only on the first christening of the day.
If accurate, Johannes was christened 9 Sep 1753. This has been interpreted
    differently by other researchers.

  4. 5.  William HENDRICKSON Descendancy chart to this point (1.Henry1) was born on 23 Dec 1757 in Middletown Point, Monmouth, New Jersey, USA; was christened before 26 Feb 1758 in Dutch Reformed Ch., Middletown, Monmouth, New Jersey; died about 1837/1838 in , Richland, Ohio, USA.

    Notes:

    HHFO: D0104William HENDRICKSON 1991: 5 1963: 5

William's birthdate, as stated by himself in his Revolutionary War Pension
file, conficts with the apparent christening date shown in the Middletown
Church records. It is assumed that he stated his birthdate correctly and that
since there is no actual date next to his christening record that it was before
    26 Feb 1758.

William appears to be the only son of Henry HENDRICKS who retained the
HENDRICKSON spelling of the surname throughout his lifetime and whose
    descendants perpetuated it.

He died before 20 June 1838, when the last notation appears in his pension
    record.

In July 1776 at Fredericktown, Frederick, MD, where he was a resident, he
entered into Revolutionary War Service for five months as a private soldier.
His corps was named the Maryland Flying Camp, with which he marched and fought
at various locations in Maryland, Delaware, New York, New Jersey and
Pennsylvania. He was honorably discharged at Philadelphia about Christmas time
    1776.

He again entered the service as a corporal in the Maryland Militia in August
1777 at Fredericktown, where he was still a resident. He turned out for a
draft, but when he was not drafted, he volunteered for a term of 10 weeks. He
fought in several battles in Maryland and Pennsylvania after which he was
discharged in Fredericktown 10 weeks later.

The Evangelical Church of Frederick records William's marriage to Charlotte
Hinkle 6 Jan 1778. Witnesses were Joram Bloomer, Robert Sapp, David Davis and
Elizabeth Hinckle. The couple lived in the Fredericktown area for at least
another two years as attested to by the births of their first two children
    there.

Some time in 1780/1781 the family migrated west to Ft. Cumberland, Allegany,
MD, where they resided for 20 years.

Early in the new century William and Charlotte turned their faces west. They
migrated first to Indian Wheeling Creek (now Ohio State) then spent a short
time at Danville, Knox, Ohio before moving to the final stop, Richland County,
    Ohio.

There has been some misunderstanding about William's wife Charlotte. Deeds in
Maryland show her as Charlotte, but later deeds executed from Ohio list
William's wife as Keziah. This has been interpreted to mean William had a
second wife. However, further investigation produces even later deeds, in
which his wife is again listed as Charlotte. The most likely explanation is
that Charlotte's middle name (or nickname) was Keziah.

    Notes:

    Albert HENDRICKS 1991: 6 1963: 6

Witnesses at Albert's christening were his paternal uncle, Albert Hendrickson
and wife, Joanna Mills, following the traditional custom that the witness be
(or be a representative for) the person for whom the child was being named.

Albert enlisted for Revolutionary War service in 1771 from Fredericktown, MD,
serving in the same "Maryland Flying Camp" as his brother William. (D04) During
his five separate enlistments he served in the battles of White Horse,
Germantown, Monmouth, and the seige of Ninety Six. He attained the rank of
Sergeant and was discharged for the last time on April 28, 1782. Albert is
#90032 in the DAR Registry of North Carolina Revolutionary Soldiers.

On March 13, 1833, Albert applied for a pension under the Pension Act of 1831,
from Sumner County, TN. His pension record, #24388, is the source of much of
the genealogical and biographical information we have.

In 1935, John Brockett Hendrix related that his great-grandfather Albert had
given $200 to his father, Henry Hendricks for safe-keeping. After two years of
Revolutionary War service he returned home and asked for his money. His father
replied, "Why no, son, that money is mine. You are not 21 yet, and you and
your money both belong to me." Tradition among the descendants of Albert
states that Albert never spoke to his father again.

At some point after his final descharge in 1782 (and perhaps because of his
dispute with his father), Albert went to Ft. Cumberland, MD, where his brother
William resided. He appears in the 1790 census there but a year or so later
(at the age of 32 or 33) he must have returned to Rockingham Co., NC as on 9
Sep 1791 (or 1792) he married Margaret Barnett. This is the name she gave in
her application for pension after Albert's death in 1843. The Barnett and
Barnard families were in the same places at the same times with various
branches of the Hendricks family. The names Barnett and Barnard were used
    interchangably.

Albert and Margaret moved from North Carolina about 1799, settling in Sumner
County, Tennessee. In 1820 they were listed in the Sumner Co. census, in 1830
in Simpson Co., KY, and in 1840 in Sumner Co., TN again. These two counties
are adjacent to each other and the family apparently owned property on both
sides of Drake's Creek, which separated the two counties.

Witnesses at Albert's christening were his paternal uncle, Albert Hendrickson and wife, Joanna Mills, following the traditional custom that the witness be (or be a representative for) the person for whom the child was being named.

Albert enlisted for Revolutionary War service in 1771 from Fredericktown, MD, serving in the same "Maryland Flying Camp" as his brother William. (D04) During his five separate enlistments he served in the battles of White Horse, Germantown, Monmouth, and the seige of Ninety Six. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was discharged for the last time on April 28, 1782. Albert is #90032 in the DAR Registry of North Carolina Revolutionary Soldiers.

On March 13, 1833, Albert applied for a pension under the Pension Act of 1831, from Sumner County, TN. His pension record, #24388, is the source of much of the genealogical and biographical information we have.

Carolina Revolutionary War Soldiers lists a Samuel Hendricks who enlisted in
1782 from the Hillsborough district--the same district where Albert (D05) also
enlisted in the North Carolina Militia. A Samuel Hendricks is found in the

    Abraham HENDRICKS 1991: 12 1963: 12 DW record no: 9163

Exactly where Abraham was born is not known; he was in Rowan Co. NC early in his life and quite possibly was born there. A deed was issued to an Abraham Hendrixson on the 16th day of July 1795 in County of Rowan, Deed Book 14; p. 635, for two hundred acres.

Later we find him in Simpson Co., Ky. Drusilla (Dorris) Hendricks (D1110-S1) states: "...Abraham was too young to fight in the Revolutionary War, but three of his brother did engage...while Abraham was left at home with his parents." Nothing more is mentioned of Abraham until James and Drusilla visited him in his declining years near Independence, Missouri.

The 1830 census of Jackson County, MO, and the will of Abraham indicate he was married a second time. The listing of the children in the will did not include a daughter previously listed as one of Abraham's children, but listed another daughter that has been assigned to the second wife, Elizabeth (Betsy). See THE HENRY HENDRICKS AND SARAH THOMPSON FAMILY, pp 46 - 48 for a detailed explanation of the assumptions made as to the assignment of the children. The birth order is also different than previously given in HENRY HENDRICKS GENEALOGY.
