Okey Hendrickson was in the 3rd Battalion of the Middlesex County Militia under Major Robert Nixon, as a private and surgeon. He later operated an inn in Hightown, Middlesex Co., NJ. moving around 1795 to Mason Co., KY. The first court was held in his house and he was granted the right to operate a tavern.

Prior to the Revolutionary War, Oke was an innholder at Hightstown, NJ. At various times, he lived in Monmouth, MIddlesex and Mercer Cos., NJDuring the Revolutionary War, he was a surgeon in the war and served with the 3rd Battallion of Middlesex County, New Jersey, commanded by Major Robert Nixon. According to the book "Hendrickson's of NY, NJ & PA" by Marie McConnell, he is also listed in the records as a "horseman", and his son Daniel is said to have related stories of riding behind him on his horse while he ministered to the wounded.For services rendered during the war, he was given 3,617 1/2 acres of land in Mason and Lewis County, Kentucky (Jilsons land grants).
